Representatives of the Chamber of Commerce appointed
to consider the installation of a United States Housing
Authority Project to consist of from 50 to 70 single and
duplex units recommend the following:
While we would rather have such a project confined to
private ownership and on a tax paying basis,, we never—
theless feel in view of the emergency and the necessity-
for defense housing that the project as proposed is
reconoended provided that houses to cost from 03,500 to
$4,000 are built are further provided that the houses
will be of varied architecture and conform with the better
houses in the_ territory in which the project is established
and further duplexes are kept to a mirimm.
As we understand that the project aE suggested is to be
converted into a slum clearance activity after the emer—
gency.. we earnestly recommend that all possible consideration
be given to owners of substandard dwellings and further
that rents as established in connection with the project
in question be maintained after the emergency is over
consistent with conditions as they then exist.
In the development of this project we recommend that the
Planning and Beautification Committees be consulted and
given the opportunity to suggest and assist in general
planning in keeping with the development of the community.
Respectfully submitted..
