A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
COMMEMORATIVELY NAMING THE STAGE OF THE AVICE MEEKER
SEWALL THEATRE AS THE "CLIFF CABANILLA STAGE"
WHEREAS, a report has been prepared and submitted by Council Member Davis requesting
the commemorative naming of the Avice Meeker Sewall Theatre stage as "Cliff Cabanilla Stage" in
honor of Cliff Cabanilla; and
WHEREAS, Cliff Cabanilla founded the Redlands Theatre Festival in 1972 as a summer
theater program for Crafton Hills College with the vision of bringing a repertory theatre company to
Redlands, to produce high -quality theatrical entertainment for the community that would delight, and
sometimes challenge, the audience and to house it in a beautiful park setting; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redlands adopted Resolution No. 7711 on
February 21, 2017; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the requirement of Resolution No.7711, Naming Procedure,
any member of the City Council may initiate a proposal for naming a City park, building or other
public facility by causing the matter to be placed for consideration on an agenda for a regularly
scheduled meeting of the City Council; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the requirement of Resolution No.7711, Criteria for Naming
Parks, Buildings and other Public Facilities, City parks, buildings or other public facilities may be
named for a person or entity who has made a significant contribution to the Redlands community,
provided such person shall be deceased for at least (3) years prior to designating his or her name for
a park, building or other public facility, unless waived by the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDLANDS AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the above -named stage will be known as "Cliff Cabanilla Stage".
