HomeMy WebLinkAbout4453_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 4453 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS OPPOSING THE DOWNGRADING OF LANDSCAPING ALONG A GREATER THAN 13 MILE STRETCH OF I-10 FREEWAY BETWEEN THE CITY OF FONTANA AND THE UNINCORPORATED AREA OF YUCAIPA. WHEREAS, since its inception, the City of Redlands has enjoyed its open spaces and well-landscaped roads,parkways, thoroughfares, and medians; and WHEREAS, the City of Redlands has adopted a EUk and Q=n S.,pace Master Plan which includes preservation of citrus, trails, open spaces, and improved entryways to the city, and in essence, will create and maintain an "Emerald Necklace", or a continuous greenbelt throughout the city; and WHEREAS, freeway beautification achieved through landscaping is an integral part of maintaining natural beauty within our city and entrances to our city; and WHEREAS,the City of Redlands wishes to continue this landscaping tradition and expand this concept in the future with the addition of more landscaped streets,roads, and freeways; and WHEREAS, it has come to our attention that a decision was made by Caltrans to downgrade the landscaping along a greater than 13 mile stretch of I-10 freeway between the City of Fontana and the unincorporated area of Yucaipa, which will adversely affect the beauty of the entrance to our city, as well as our sphere of influence, and will include the removal of many tall trees with possible replacement by unsightly billboard signs. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redlands: 1. Does vigorously oppose the California. Department of Transportation's decision to downgrade the landscaping along a greater than 13 mile stretch of I-10 freeway between the City of Fontana and the unincorporated area of Yucaipa. 2. Will avail themselves to take whatever actions are necessary -- through our legislators or other means -- to rectify this decision. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Redlands does highly recommend to the California Department of Transportation that they immediately rescind their decision to downgrade the landscaping along the I-10 freeway between the City of Fontana and the unincorporated area.of Yucaipa.
