A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
DECLARING THE EXISTENCE OF A LOCAL EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, California Government Code Sections 8630 gt- aM. and Chapter 2.52 of the
Redlands Municipal Code empower the City Council of the City of Redlands to proclaim the
existence of a local emergency when the City is affected or likely to be affected by conditions of
disaster or of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property; and
WHEREAS, in the case of an emergency situation involving matters upon which prompt
action is necessary due to the disruption or threatened disruption of public facilities, pursuant to
Government Code Section 54956.5, this City Council may hold an emergency meeting without
complying with either the 24-hour notice requirement or the 24-hour posting requirement of the
Ralph M. Brown Act; and
WHEREAS, for purposes of holding an emergency meeting, an "emergency situation"
includes work stoppage and other activities which severely impair public health, safety, or both as
determined by a majority of the members of the City Council; and
WHEREAS,this City Council has determined that based upon the testimony provided by the
City's Public Works Director, and City staff,an emergency situation presently exists within the City;
and
WHEREAS, on the 24th day of February, 1998, the City Council of the City of Redlands
held an emergency meeting to proclaim the existence of a local emergency meeting based upon the
following finding:
1. That conditions of extreme peril to persons and property, and the disruption or
threatened disruption to public facilities has occurred, caused by the collapse of a
portion of the Mill Creek Zanja along West State Street at Kendall Street and other
systematic failures of public infrastructure at various locations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redlands that
a local emergency exists throughout the City as proclaimed on this 24th day of February, 1998.
ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 24th day of February, 1998.
