SIDE LETTER OF AGREEMENT (2024)
This Side Letter of Agreement amending the July 1, 2023 — June 30, 2026 Memorandum of
Understanding between the Redlands Professional Firefighters Association (RPFA) and the City
of Redlands ("City") is made and entered into this 19th day of March, 2024. RPFA and the City
are sometimes individually referred to herein as a "Party" and, together, as the "Parties."
RECITALS
WHEREAS, on July 5, 2023, RPFA and the City agreed to a Memorandum of
Understanding ("RPFA MOU") for the period of July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2026; and
WHEREAS, the Parties now wish to clarify their intentions with respect to Article 46,
Section 46.03 of the RPFA MOU; and
WHEREAS, representatives of the City and RPFA have met and conferred in good faith,
and now wish to effect changes with respect to Article 46, Section 46.03.
NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual promises contained herein, RPFA
and the City agree as follows:
AGREEMENT
Section 1. Article 46, Section 46.03 of the RPFA MOU, entitled "Accrual Payment upon
Retirement" is hereby amended to read as follows:
SECTION 46.03: ACCRUAL PAYMENT UPON RETIREMENT
A. Upon service or medical retirement under the PERS retirement plan, or in the event
of the death of an employee prior to retirement, employees with less than fifteen (15)
years of service with the City may elect one (1) of the following options for payment
of unused sick leave:
1. Accrued sick leave may be cashed out at the prevailing hourly rate at three -
percent (3%) for each year of service to a maximum of 100%.
2. At the time of retirement or disability retirement extend service credit equal to
one hundred percent (100%) of accrued sick leave on the books.
B. Upon service or medical retirement under the PERS retirement plan, or in the event
of the death of an employee prior to retirement, employees who have served a
minimum of fifteen (15) years of service with the City, shall be provided lifetime
health insurance or the Medical Bridge in accordance with Article 31, Section D. In
addition, affected employees also have the option of being compensated for unused
sick leave on the books at the time of retirement by either option 1 or 2 above.
