HomeMy WebLinkAbout6325_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 6325 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS, CALIFORNIA, FOR THE PURPOSE OF PLACING A MONUMENT IN JENNIE DAVIS PARK HONORING WIDOWS AND ORPHANS OF UNITED STATES WAR HERDS WHEREAS, the citizens of the Redlands hold dear the memory of those brave, courageous and dedicated members of the United States Armed Forces who gallantly and willingly answered the call to defend our great Nation in times of war and conflict; and WHEREAS, during these times of world unrest brave families - wives, husbands and children - were left to carry on. Sadly, many would never again enjoy the safety and security of a loving parent or companion creating a vast void in their lives, never to be completely healed; and WHEREAS, Wallace Sanchez, a World War II veteran, has often thought during the years about the sacrifices made by the families of those who gave their lives defending our country. Master Sgt. Sanchez became determined to create a commemorative statue recognizing those who lost loved ones and presented his proposal to the Redlands City Council; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redlands, at their meeting of September 7, 2004, approved the placement of a statue honoring widows and orphans of war heroes to be placed in Jennie Davis Park near the Eternal Flame monument; and WHEREAS, Master Sgt. Sanchez and Councilmember Gary George have approached the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians regarding funding of a monument honoring widows and orphans. San Manuel Band has asked for assurance that if they provide such funding, the monument will be placed in Jennie Davis Park near the Eternal Flame monument; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City agrees that should the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians provide funding for the statue, in accordance with their request, the statue would be placed in Jennie Davis Park near the Eternal Flame memorial. Section 2. The City will support the placement of a monument to honor widows and orphans of war heroes with the understanding that City staff will provide assistance in the actual placement of the statue. ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 21 st day of September, 2004.
