security of the sited States and the State of California; and
WEER EAS it is the stipulated national policy that Civil Defense
is essential to National Security with the org8nizational and
operational respoosibilities resting with the several states and
with local jurisdiction; and
WHEREAS the City U Redlunds is in a most vital support area of the
State of California, alont with"its sistcr cities of California
Region 8; and
OERFAS it is Oe cons i " ,7vd opinion of this body that the benefits
dorived in the past, an expected in the future, from the
planning, coordination ana s..,ort of the Region 8 office; aind
Tri E? S it is the considered opinion of, this body that the civil
defense effort as a whole in Region 0 might suffer sevarely by the
removal of the Region 8 office, and assignment of this city to a
more rarate regional office, sLich would have an adued burden with
a reduced staff: Therefore be it
JESOUST further, That the QJy of Redlands makes the strongnst of
recommendations to thE, State of California that the 8th Region be
retained in operation for the say etY Mpelf are of Region 8 and the
coastal area it sapporta.

the City Council at a regular meeting thereof held on
April 21, 1953, by the following roll-call vote :
Ayes : Councilmen Van Diest , Putnam, Elkins, and Mayor Folkins.
