HomeMy WebLinkAbout4703_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 4703 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS, COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA, ENDORSING PROPOSITION 130, THE ANCIENT FOREST AND WILDLIFE PROTECTION AND BOND ACT OF 1990. WHEREAS, less than five percent (5%) of California 's ancient redwood forests remain uncut and other forested areas are destroyed at an alarming rate as well; and WHEREAS, these forests should not simply be considered as a marketable product but must be recognized as oases of beauty and life that clean our air, hold and build the soil, control moisture and lessen temperature, lessen noise and provide habitat for wildlife, some of which is unique; and WHEREAS, the environment of the State of California has become increasingly manmade, where the greater part of our citizens live in rapidly urbanizing and denaturized cities and towns; and WHEREAS, these forests, together with their resident wildlife, are of inestimable value to the residents of the State of California and should be preserved and protected, cultivated and cared for as a vital component of our heritage and lives today as well as for future generations of Californians; and WHEREAS, Proposition 130 achieves the preservation and protection of these forests by reforming timber harvest methods, by allowing and providing funding for acquisition of forests, by providing Californians an opportunity to observe and enjoy such forests as public land and by providing funding to offset economic hardships that may result as the Act is implemented. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redlands as follows. Section 1. The City Council of the City of Redlands endorses Proposition 130, the Ancient Forest and Wildlife Protection and Bond Act of 1990, and encourages all residents of the City of Redlands to consider this Proposition as a means of preserving beauty and recreational opportunities in very special settings for all Californians to observe and enjoy. Section 2 . The City Council of the City of Redlands hereby authorizes and otherwise expresses permission of the use of the name of the City of Redlands as an endorser of Proposition 130 when used to inform, educate or otherwise communicate with the public relative to the Act. Adopted, signed and approved this 16th day of October 1990.
