A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE ITY OF REDLANDS,
CALIFORNIA, DECLARING SUPPORT FOR THE CONCEPT OF COUNTING
EVERYONE IN THE 1990 CENSUS WITHOUT REGARD TO CITIZENSHIP
WHEREAS, the federal government will conduct the 10-year
census in 1990; and
WHEREAS, the stated purpose of the census is to arrive
at the total count of everyone in the country regardless of
citizenship status; and
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States is
considering restricting the census of legal citizens only,
which would effectively deny regions like Southern California
vitally needed federal dollars; and
WHEREAS, the effect of this denial of federal funds
causes undue hardship of local governments to make up the
shortfall;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Redlands
supports the concept of counting everyone in the 1990 Census
without regard to citizenship status;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this
resolution be transmitted to the State Legislature and
Executive Branch and the Southern California Congressional
delegation.
ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 7th day of November,
