HomeMy WebLinkAbout2441_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO . 2441 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS OPPOSING THE PASSAGE OF ASSEMBLY BILL NO . AB 1461 WHEREAS, the passage of this bill, reducing the average duty week for firemen to 40 hours , requiring time off with pay for any duty over 40 hours , deeming fire protection a matter of state concern and consequently, seriously jeopardizing the basic home rule authority reserved for local governments ; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill No. 1461 would cost all cities of the State of California in excess of $70 million per year and greatly affect existing local budgets , creating a new demand for additional tax dollars and increased tax rates ; and WHEREAS, the adoption of said bill would not necessarily in- crease the existing efficiency and effectiveness of the local fire department, but would prove to be detrimental to the people of the City of Redlands by limiting the strength and integrity of local governments in the State of California; NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS : Section 1. The City Council, for and on behalf of the people of the City of Redlands , opposes the passage of Assembly Bill No . 1461 and urges the state legislature to retain the present system of allowing local governments to establish their own working schedules for fire departments. SECTION 2 . That certified copies of this Resolution be sent to Governor Edmund G. Brown; Lt . Governor Glenn M. Anderson; President Pro Tem- pore of the Senate, Hugh M. Burns ; Assembly Speaker Jesse M. Unruh; Senator Eugene Nesbit ; Assemblyman Stuart Hinckley and Richard Carpenter of the League of California Cities.
