HomeMy WebLinkAbout2436_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 2436 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS OPPOSING THE PASSAGE OF ASSEMBLY BILL NO. 300 AND 1212 WHEREAS, historically In California local elections have been conducted on a nonpartisan basis ; and WHEREAS, the absence of partisan politics and possible "pork barrel legislation" in local goverment elections has been proven to be a direct benefit to the people of the City of Redlands ; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill Noe 300 and 1212 have been introduced to the state legislature and would allow partisan politics to be involved in local election, creating a greater schism rather than closer harmony in the legislative duties of local government ; and WHEREAS, the adoption of said Assembly Bill No. 300 and 1212 would prove to be a detrimental action to the people of the City of Redlands , and limit the strength, efficiency and integrity of local governments In the State of California; NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS - Section 1. The City Council, for and on behalf of the people of the City of Redlands, opposes the passage of Assembly Bill No . 300 and 1212 and urges the state legislature to retain the present and proven system by which local officials are elected on a nonpartisan basis . Section 2. That certified copies of this Resolution be sent to Governor Edmund G. Brown, Lt. Governor Glenn M. Andersons President Pro Tempore of the Senate Hugh M. Burns ; Assembly Speaker ,nesse M. Unruh; Senator Eugene Nesbit ; Assemblyman Stuart Hinckley and Richard Carpenter of the League of California Cities . Introduced, approved and adopted this 16th day of March, 1965.
