A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDLANDS REAFFIRMING THE CITY' S OPPOSITION OF JOINT
COMMERCIAL USE OF NORTON AIR FORCE BASE
WHEREAS, on December 21 , 1971 the City Council of the City of
Redlands adopted a resolution opposing joint military-commercial use of
Norton Air Force Base and reaffirmed this position by similar resolution
on November 21, 1972 , and
WHEREAS, one of the salient factors in this protest was the refusal
by FHA to insure loans for homes in the northeast section of the City of
Redlands until the Norton flight pattern was redirected away from the
City, and
WHEREAS, Norton Air Force Base has been a major contributor to the
economy and the stability of the San Bernardino Valley during its exis-
tence as an exclusively military establishment, and
WHEREAS, the proposed joint use may jeopardize the military mission
at Norton Air Force Base, and
WHEREAS, the addition of commercial use to the already busy facili-
ties will increase the air traffic to an unreasonable extent, intensify
noise problems, and be a hazard to all air safety in the vicinity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Redlands opposes and protests the joint military-commercial use of Norton
Air Force Base; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk will advise the Department
of Defense, the Secretary of the Air Force, the head of the FAA, United
States Senator Alan Cranston, Congressman Jerry Lewis, State Senator
Robert B. Presley, Assemblyman Bill Leonard, and San Bernardino County
Supervisor Dennis Hansberger by sending copies of this resolution.
