HomeMy WebLinkAbout3610_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 3610 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS REAFFIRMING THE CITY' S OPPOSITION OF JOINT COMMERCIAL USE OF NORTON AIR FORCE BASE WHEREAS, on December 21 , 1971 the City Council of the City of Redlands adopted a resolution opposing joint military-commercial use of Norton Air Force Base and reaffirmed this position by similar resolution on November 21, 1972 , and WHEREAS, one of the salient factors in this protest was the refusal by FHA to insure loans for homes in the northeast section of the City of Redlands until the Norton flight pattern was redirected away from the City, and WHEREAS, Norton Air Force Base has been a major contributor to the economy and the stability of the San Bernardino Valley during its exis- tence as an exclusively military establishment, and WHEREAS, the proposed joint use may jeopardize the military mission at Norton Air Force Base, and WHEREAS, the addition of commercial use to the already busy facili- ties will increase the air traffic to an unreasonable extent, intensify noise problems, and be a hazard to all air safety in the vicinity. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redlands opposes and protests the joint military-commercial use of Norton Air Force Base; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk will advise the Department of Defense, the Secretary of the Air Force, the head of the FAA, United States Senator Alan Cranston, Congressman Jerry Lewis, State Senator Robert B. Presley, Assemblyman Bill Leonard, and San Bernardino County Supervisor Dennis Hansberger by sending copies of this resolution. ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 4th day of September, 1979.
