HomeMy WebLinkAbout3363_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 3363 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS OPPOSING AB 220 WHEREAS, the Southern California Gas Company has been working intensively on various gas supply projects since 1969 which are now in the process of receiving governmental approval; and WHEREAS, all decisions on sitinq and construction of an LNG plant must be made this year to meet the 1980-81 deadline for new natural gas supplies that would avert upwards of 700,000 people losing their jobs because of the lack of natural gas to small com- mercial and industrial businesses that would be forced to shut down; and WHEREAS, the safety of LNG has been proven by research' studies and actual operational experience at nine terminals and over 100 other fa- cilities around the world; and WHEREAS , each day' s delay adds over $800, 000 for the two LNG pro- jects, South Alaska and Tndonesa, in addition to threatening environ- mental and economic havoc and high unemployment in southern California; and WHEREAS, California cannot afford to risk its economic future for the sake of accommodating the present slow, red tape laden state reg- ulatory process; and WHEREAS, the introduction of additional governmental agencies into the approval process would add new lavers of jurisdiction to the large number of regulatory approvals already required resulting in a redundancy in this chain of approval. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the C.ity of Redlands opposes the passage of AB 220 which would slow down the approval process , establish unrealistic conditions for construction of on-shore facilities , and provide significant grey areas to insure lengthy court challenges and further delays in construction of natural gas facilities . BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution be submitted to the Governor, State Legislature and other governmental agencies affected.
