A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE, CITY OF REDLANDS
OPPOSING THE PASSAGE OF ASSEMBLY BILL 26 ESTABLISHING A
MORATORIUM ON LUMBER CUTTING AND LOGGING IN THE KERN
RIVER PLATEAU AREA.
WHEREAS , the establishment of a moratorium on lumber
cutting and logging would immediately gravely affect one
of the largest industries in the City of Redlands ,
possibly putting this industry out of business, causing
the loss of 275 jobs and consequently, a serious economic
setback for this city,
WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Redlands
is very aware of the need to retain this plateau area as
a major California recreational center and urge an
immediate clarification of policy by the United States
Forest Service as to its long-range goals of the region,
WHEREAS , the City Council urges a feasibility study
be initiated to show that lumbering and recreational use
of the Kern River Plateau Area could prove compatible , and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redlands ,
believing that a moratorium as proposed in Assembly Bill

of a mutual-use program of lumbering and recreational
activities.
