A RESOLUTION OF THE REDLANDS CITY COUNCIL IN
OPPOSITION TO THE CLOSING OF REDLANDS VETERANS
AFFAIRS CENTER
WHEREAS, it has been suggested that for budget reasons the
Veterans Affairs Center in Redlands be closed, with veterans from
the Yucaipa-Calimesa-Mentone-Redlands-Highland-Loma Linda area
being served in San Bernardino, but
WHEREAS, closing of the Veterans Affairs Center in Redlands
would be ill- advised for the following reasons
1. it seems inappropriate at a time when additional
thousands of contacts will be needed with the
opening of the new V. A. Hospital which will be closer
to Redlands than to San Bernardino.
2. it will be contrary to environmental and energy con-
siderations, requiring thousands of veterans to travel
several more miles per visit, or utilize long distance
phoning to reach the more distant office.
3 . It will be contrary to the recommendations of the
County Grand Jury.
4. it would save a very small sum of money compared to
the benefits to the citizens concerned, as well as
to the entire Redlands-Lama Linda-Yucaipa area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we urge the County Board
of Supervisors to carefully investigate the work load of the respec-
tive offices before finally deciding this matter.
ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 18th day of May, 1976.
