A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS APPROVING
SIGN CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT NO. 18 PERMITTING CONSTRUCTION OF TWO
190.18 SQUARE FOOT WALL SIGNS (APPLICANT: ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AND
SIGNS, INC)
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redlands as follows:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Redlands determines that Sign Conditional
Use Permit No. 18 is exempt from the California Environinental Quality Act, pursuant to Section
15311(a) of the California Environmental Quality Act Guidelines.
Section 2. The City Council of the City of Redlands hereby approves Sign
Conditional Use Permit No. 18, subject to the conditions of approval attached hereto as Exhibit
"A," and based upon the following fundings:
A. The sizes of the signs are compatible with the design, architecture, and
scale of the building and/or project because the warehouse/distribution center, for
which the signs are intended to identify, is 704,115 square feet in size, located on
33.5 acres, with building frontage lengths of 1004 linear feet along San
Bernardino Avenue and six hundred eighty (680) linear feet along California
Street. The wall.signs will utilize individual channel letters with a cabinet for the
business' corporate logo. The signs, measuring at 190.18 square feet each, with
letter height ranging from two feet six and one fourth inches (2'-6 1/") to two feet
eleven and one half inches (2'-11 '/2") and a sign length of thirty three (33) feet,
are large enough to be proportional to the scale of development found at the
project site.
B. The sizes of the signs are aesthetically consistent with the project, adjacent
areas, and the City of Redlands' architectural standards; the existing
warehouse/distribution center has an industrial tilt-up design and the wall signs
will have an attractive design utilizing individual channel Ietters. In addition, the
internally illuminated signs are aesthetically consistent with the adjacent
industrial setting as large channel letter wall signs are a widely used method of
business identification for warehouse/distribution facilities in the in the area
including one 220 square foot wall sign and one 120 square foot wall sign for
Salton at 2300 W. San Bernardino Avenue (Sign Conditional Use Permit No. 8),
and two (2) 118 square foot signs for Ashley Furniture, at 2501 W. San
Bernardino Avenue, as well as numerous others within local area.
C. The sizes of the sign are necessary to provide project identification for the
benefit of the general public because the size and scale of the building and its
intended use as a warehouse/distribution facility. Due to the massing and large
building frontages, large wall signs in scale with the building would be necessary
to provide both business identification for the building, and to provide clarity for
