A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS IN SUPPORT
OF THE REDLANDS PASSENGER RAIL PROJECT
WHEREAS, San Bernardino County voters approved Measure I, a 20-year half-cent sales
tax on November 1989 for transportation improvement programs; and
WHEREAS, on November 4, 2004, voters extended Measure I by 30 years with 80.03'%
of the vote; and
WHEREAS, the Measure 12010-2040 Expenditure Plan includes construction of a
commuter rail line from the Transit Center i"l the city of San Bernardino to the City of Redlands;
and
WHEREAS, the Redlands Passenger Rail Project ("Project") will reduce our carbon
footprint and improve air quality by reducing the number of motor vehicles on the highway; and
WHEREAS,the Project will boost economic activity by creating retail hubs, mix-use
development and construction jobs; and
WHEREAS, the Project will create a reliable transit alternative by providing accessibility
and connectivity to regional transit services; and
WHEREAS,the Project will reduce traffic congestion along the 1-10 cominuter freeway;
and
WHEREAS, the Project demonstrates what can be accomplished with the collaboration
of both public and private organizations; and
WHEREAS, this commuter rail line has the support of the business community of
Redlands, which shows the resolve in the community to bring this project to fruition;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,by the City Council of the City of Redlands
as follows:
Section 1. The City of Redlands hereby recognizes the tremendous avenue for residents
of the East Valley Region and surrounding communities to access educational, recreational, and
professional opportunities in an affordable and environmentally-friendly manner that will be
provided by the Redlands Passenger Rail Line.
Section 2. A copy of this resolution shall be presented to SANBAG President L. Dennis
Michael and SANBAG Executive Director Raymond Wolfe.
