A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS HONORING THE 25TH
ANNIVERSARY OF THE FORMATION OF SAN BERNARDINO VALLEY MUNICIPAL
WATER DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District
was incorporated February 17, 1954, under the Municipal Water
District Act of 1911, as amended; and
WHEREAS, the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District's
primary function has been to plan and develop a long-range water
supply, including the importation and distribution of State Project
Water for the Upper Santa Ana River Basin area within the District;
and
WHEREAS, the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District is
now one of the prin-cipal member agencies in the Santa Ana Watershed
Project Authority, a Joint Exercise of Powers Agency with the ob-
jective of improving the quality of water in the Santa Ana River
Basin through implementation of a comprehensive water quality man-
agement plan; and
WHEREAS, the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District
entered into a contract with the State of California, Department of
Water Resources as one of the 31 contracting agencies for water from
the California State Water Project for a total entitlement of 102 ,600
acre-feet in the 20th year of delivery (1991) which should satisfy
the local water demand plus the necessary recharge of the long over-
drafted underground basins of the Upper Santa Ana River stream system;
and
WHEREAS, the San Bernardino valley Municipal Water District has
completed Phase 1 , Phase 2 and the planning for Phase 3 of its water
Master Distribution System in order to make delivery to appropriate
facilities throughout the District as envisioned in the original
planning concepts recommended to residents therein, who supported
such a plan by an overwhelming vote for long range financing of the
project; and
WHEREAS, the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District has
become one of California's leading water agencies in providing sup-
plemental water, basin management and regional planning for water
resources, weather modification, data collection, distribution,
coordination; and through representation on both local and state
agencies for area wide water service and water quality planning,
engineering and design, the dissemination of public information and
the legal representation for all upstream agencies in major legal
water matters; and
WHEREAS , the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District
has effected joint ventures in various projects in the best
interest of the taxpayers by cooperating with San Gabriel Valley
Municipal Water District, the County of San Bernardino, State of
California, Department of Water Resources , Department of Housing
and Urban Development, Yucaipa Valley County Park and Recreation
District, Chino Basin Municipal Water District-, Western Municipal
Water District, Orange County Water District and the San Gorgonio
Pass water Agency, just to name a few, in neer cons traction , planning
and other water related matters; and has established an excellent,
professional and operational relationship with other water agencies
throughout California; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Redlands on behalf of the people in the City of Redlands
express their warmest commendations for the past 25 years of service
to the people in their District and throughout the Santa Ana River
stream system: act.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Redlands expresses its appreciation for the District' s leadership
and resolution of many vital water matters with the hope that they
will continue to do so successfully in the years ahead.
