HomeMy WebLinkAbout3998_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 3998 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS OPPOSING PROPOSITION 36 WHEREAS, the Jarvis IV Initiative, the alleged Save Proposition 13 campaign, will result in the largest single property tax increase in the State' s history for anyone who purchased property in the past eight years ; and WHEREAS , the proceeds from those increased taxes will be used to fund the largest single refund checks in the State' s history to the six largest utilities in California, and others; and WHEREAS , Proposition 36, by further restricting local government' s ability to raise money for the necessary improve- ments to roads , sewer and water lines, will transfer the control over such projects to Sacramento; and WHEREAS, this proposition could result in the total default of the State Water Project, despite claims to the contrary by the author of the proposition; and WHEREAS , any jeopardizing of the State Water Project could bring severe economic depression to all of California; and WHEREAS , the property tax savings received by landlords and mobile home park owners can remain with the owners , as none of these savings are required to be passed on to the tenants or mobile home coach owners under the proposition; and WHEREAS , this proposition could adversely effect the city' s paramedic program since assessments may only be used for capital improvements; and WHEREAS, further provisions of this initiative, make it un- lawful to charge the full cost of providing services to residents . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the adoption of this resolution, the City of Redlands opposes Proposition 36, the Jarvis IV Initiative. ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 16th day of October, 1984.
