REDLANDS MMUCIPAL AIRPORT'.
WIMREAS, the City of Redland,-, hereinal ter called City, has estah-
lished a municipal airport, knty,=m as the Redlands Municipal Airport,
for the purpose of serving the piUblic interest In providing airport
facilities for the people of the city; and
!v'HERMAS, it is essential to the operation of the airport that
flight traffic patterns of the airport shall not be -interfered with
or impaired by any physical structures in the area; and
I-MREAS, the South !Kest Broadcast4lig 11m-npany, Inc. , hereinafter
sometimes called "applicant" , has filed an ap,-plication with the
Planning ComAasiori 0.-'L-* San Bernardino County requesting approval of the
location and development plan, pursuant to tho provisions of County
Ordinance 678, seeking to erect a transmitter and taxer site for Radio
Station XCAL on property that is located approximately three-quarters
of a mile northwest of the west end Of the airport mawwav as planned
in accordanceme
with requirents and spe-c-ificattions of the Federal
lwiation Agency, and
VPHERBAS, the tranamitter tcrwaars in the proposed donvelopi-ii-ent will
be approximately 142 feet higher than the elevation of the wast end
of the rumvray,- and
'NMEREAS, -IC-he proposed transmitter tcrwers will a&,rersely affect
landing operations on the single rurrway from a wasterly to easterly
direction, becaulse the tmwars are located at the turning point from.
the down wind to the base leg approach, here the pilot T;.,Lll be losing
altitudes rapidly; and
WHEREAS, the propogod towers will cause a hazard to air traffic
at the airport, particularly during periods of lrmited visibility; and
MEIREAS, great, danger will be caused doxing instrument approaches,
which must bib Crede uzing the let-dcren facilities at 117orton Air Force
Base and the subseqUent transition from the east end of Morton Air
Force Base to the wast and of the Redlands Airport under poor visibility
conditions at Im., altitudes; and
U7HEREAS, the San Bernardino Valley floor, particularly over the
Santa Ana River bed, and adjacent areas, has always been open, with
no obstruction to air traffic; and for the first time, by the con-
struction of the proposed tc*Ters, an obstruction will be raised to
an altitude approximately 142 feet higher than the Redlands Airport
runway, and mire than 440 font higher than the instrument runway of
Morton Air Force Base.
IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by tlh.e City Council of the City of Redlands,
as follows
SECTION I. That the erection and installation of structures to

a height which unreasonably interferes with flight patterns, and
causes hazard to aircraft using the Redlands Municipal Airport, is
contrary to public policy favoring necessary local airport facilities.
SECTION 2. That the application to the County Planning Commission
by the South West Broadcasting Company, Inc. , for approval of a location
and development plan that would allowthe. construction of transmitter
towers to a height of approximately 21-9 feet, located approximately
three-quarters of a mile north- west of the west end of the Redlands
Municipal Airport directly in its northerly flight traffic pattern,
intarferes with the proper operation of the airport.
SECTION 3. That the applicant' s -request being contrary to the
public interest, should be denied by the Planning Commission and tl,.e
Board of Supervisors of. the County of San Bernardino.
