RESOLUTION NO . 2.453
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
REQUESTING THAT THE FISH AND GAME COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF
CALIFORNIA PROVIDE WARM WATER FISH AND TROUT TO TWO PUBLICLY
OWNED PONDS IN THE CITY OF REDLANDS TO SERVE PURELY RECREATIONAL
PURPOSES
WHEREAS, the two ponds to be considered, consist of 1 3/4 acres
of water, supplied constantly by a fresh inflow and outflow, and
were built specifically to serve as a fish habitat , providing an
excellent recreation and outdoor activity for the citizens of Redlands
and San Bernardino County.
WHEREAS, this water facility includes such high standards for a
fish habitat as the constant change of water, ample plant life and a
deep soil bottom, therefore, the City Council of the City of Redlands
requests the Fish and Game Commission to review this facility and its
unique standards in order to stock these ponds with fish for recrea-
tion purposes , and
WHEREAS, because of the growing water shortages in many publicly--
owned bodies of water, due to recently dry years , this facility is one
of the very few that could qualify in Southern California under the
a.bovementioned standards and requirements , and
WHEREAS, these ponds would be under proper supervision and con-
trol through rules and regulations adopted by the City of Redlands,
and in conformity with State fish and game laws ; would greatly enhance
the recreation and general welfare of the people of the City of
Redlands and the State of California, and
WHEREAS, because of the recognized need to expand the recreational
and outdoor activities near the cities of the State of California , the
use of existing publicly-owned bodies of water, meeting the criteria
and standards as previously mentioned, including constant changing
water, plant life and a deep soil bottom, would provide a new area. of
recreation for the people of this state, and
WHEREAS, such standards and criteria should also take into consi-
deration such conditions as proximity to population centers, the
permanence of such facility, excellent breeding conditions and maximum
use by the public ,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDLANDS HEREBY DECLARE ITS REQUEST TO THE FISH AND GAME COMMISSION OF
THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO STOCK WARM WATER FISH AND TROUT IN TWO
PUBLICLY--OWNED PONDS IN THE CITY OF REDLANDS FOR PURELY RECREATIONAL
PURPOSES.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT A CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION BE
PRESENTED TO EACH MEMBER OF THE FISH AND GAME COMMISSION, AND TO MR.
WALTER T. SHANNON, DIRECTOR, DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME,
INTRODUCED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of ay, 1965. '
