appropriated $500,000.00 from the Mate Higlaway Fund to the Pub!Aic
Utillties Commission of the 6tate 01 Cali-tornia for allocation by said
Comi-,iission to cities ani counties , on the basis of need, as determinea
by sa4CI COMMiSSion, to assist them in paying their share of cost of
constructing gracLe crossing protection work on city and county streets ,
roads anew highways ; and

the State of Caliiornia issued Commission Order No. 49565, as amended
pursuant to said statute , establishing procedures to be followed by
cities anti counties in requesting such allocation from the Crossing
Protection Funu; and

NOW THEREFORF-1 BE IT RZSOLVF-D BY TI-F- CITY COUNCIL OF THIE CITY OF
REDLANDS:
The signatures of the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to
appear on the submitted application to the Public Utilities Commission
for allocation by the Public Utilities Commission in accordance with the
rules and regulations of said Commission.
ADOPTED this 15th day of April 1969.

REQUEST FOR ALLOCATION OF FUNDS
The City of Redlands, State of California, hereby requests the Public
Utilities Commission to make an allocation to applicant from the -cross-
ing Protection Fund in theMaximu amount of $3, 535.00; suciz allocation)
however , not to exceed one-half of the actual casts of construction pro-
tection at the crossing of the tracks of the Southern pacific Company
and Eureka Street, being Crossing No. BP .547.71.
1. Attached as Exhibit A is a true copy of a resolution adopted by
the legislative body of applicant authorizing the submission of this
request.
2. The present protection at the crossing consists of two cross-
bucks .
3. The proposed protection at the crossing is two mita. 8 flashing
light signals with automatic crossing gates.
4. Vehicular traffic count is 2,740 with two, train movements during
a typical 24 hour weekday period.
5. Attached as Exhibit B is an estimate of the cost of installing
the protection. The estimate was provided by the Sduthern Pacific
Company.

6. Attached as Exhibit C is a true copy of the executed agreement
as prepared by the southern Pacific Company for the installation of the

protection devices described in paragraph 3 and the division of the costs
thereof.
7. The City of Redlands is willing and able to participate in the
costs of construction in the amount of $3,535.00 over an above the amount
of the requested allocation ; said amount is presently available.
6. The City of Redlands has e>cpended $35,600.00 for crossing pro-
tection during the previous three fiscal years ; budgeted or available
during the present fiscal year is $40,000.00.
9, Eureka Street is a primary street in the City of Redlands arterial
system. The ultimate Average Daily Traffic County (A.D.T.) will be in the
range of 4,500 vehicles.
The upgrading of protection as described in paragraphs 2 and 3 was
ordered by the Public Utilities Commission under Decision No. 71971.
