HomeMy WebLinkAbout700_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION 706 WHEREAS, the Raw= Freeway is the principal Sast-West freeway In the Southern California Freeway System, costing approximately #e0,0OOj000o and on the first priority list of major freeway projects Including the Hollywood, Harbor, Santa Ana, Arroyo Saco and River Preawayn, and WHlaEASO the Ramona Freaway extends 60 miles through continuous East-West metropojitka4 levelopment from the heart of Los Angeles across eastern Ims Angeles County, serving San Bernardino, Riverside and Imperial counties and points to the east, being a portion of three important transcontinental U.S. Routes 600 70 and 99, carrying major state and interstate traffic, and ER C, the construction has been financed to complete the Ramona Freeway by 19b3 from Los Angeles Civic Center to Rosemead Boulevard westerly of the City of El Monte, with further funds bud- geted to complete right of way acquisition between El Monte and east of Colton, and WHEREAS, the cities of Los Angeles, Alhambra, Monterey Park, West Covina, Kmona, Claremont, Upland, Ontario, Rialto and Colton, and the counties of Los Angeles and San Biernardino, have agreed as to routine Of the Ramona Freeway through their respective localities, and WHERE&S, the California HIghway Commission has not been able to obtain an agreement with the City of El Monte for the routing of the Ramona Preaway through that said eltys which is creating a "bottle- peek" jeopardizing the financing and construction program of the entire Ramona Preaway project , and WHEREAS, the State Highway Engineer, after long study, has re- commended a route to serve as the best location for the City of El Monte, the the 70$000 people of the greater Z1 Monte area, and the 600,000 people within the 60-mile metropolitan length of the Ramona Freeway, and WHEREAS, Q Monte city officials have repeatedly refused to recognize the findings of the finest and most experienced engineers and have advocated a southerly by-pass of the city which is Inadequate circuitous and detrimental to the economy of the area. NOW, TnEREFOREO BE IT RESOLVEDo by the City 0ouneil, City of Redlands ; That the California Highway Commission adopt the recommendation of the Stqte highway Engineer as to the routing of the Razoaa Freeway through, the City of El Vantex extendi g once again the opportunity to S1 monte, CIO officials to exeeut6ALfreeway agreement, aml further, that if said cooperation bythey city officials eontinues to be lacking, that the California Highway Commission proceed with the construction of the Ramona Freeway on the adopted routing through the city City of Rl Monte, separating all Ul Vonto city streets at grade, so an to corm— plete the Ram= Freeway project which Is so vital to the economy and social welfare of the entire area.
