HomeMy WebLinkAbout8656RESOLUTION NO. 8656 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS ACKNOWLEDGING RECEIPT OF A REPORT PREPARED BY THE FIRE CHIEF OF THE REDLANDS FIRE DEPARTMENT REGARDING THE INSPECTION OF CERTAIN OCCUPANCIES PURSUANT TO SECTION 13146 OF THE CALIFORNIA HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE WHEREAS, State of California Senate Bill No. 1205 added Section 13146.4 to the California Health and Safety Code; and, WHEREAS, Health and Safety Code Sections 13146.2 and 13146.3 require all fire departments or fire districts, including the Redlands Fire Department, that provide fire protection services to perform annual inspections in every building used as a public or private school, hotel, motel, and apartment occupancies for compliance with building standards, as provided; and WHEREAS, Health and Safety Code Section 13146.4 requires all fire departments, or fire districts, including the Redlands Fire Department, that provide fire protection services to report annually to its administering authority on its compliance with Sections 13146.2 and 13146.3 at the time of its annual budget review or at another time as determined by the administering authority; and WHEREAS, Section 13146.2 mandates that the local fire department inspect all hotels and motels annually. RFD inspected 100% of the 17 hotels and motels identified in the City's jurisdiction; and WHEREAS, Section 13146.2 also mandates that the local fire department inspect all apartment buildings, except inside individual dwelling units. Code defines an apartment building as three or more attached units and excludes all duplex -style buildings. RFD inspected 100% of the 254 apartment locations with three attached units or greater identified in the City's jurisdiction; and, WHEREAS Section 13146.3 also mandates that the local fire department inspect all public and private schools annually. RFD inspected 100% of 40 public and private school locations identified in the City's jurisdiction; and, WHEREAS, the City Council of the Redlands intends this Resolution to fulfill the requirements of the Health and Safety Code regarding acknowledgment of receipt of the 2024 compliance report (Exhibit "A"). Discussion The following table provides a summary of the sites identified in the City's jurisdiction by occupancy type that required a state mandated fire inspection and the associated number of completed inspections in calendar year 2024.
