RESOLUTION NO. 1084
RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE FUNCTION OF THE SAN BERNARDINO VALLEY
MUNICIPAL WATER DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District was formed for the
purpose of supplying water to its inhabitants and protecting their water rights; and
WHEREAS, the District has the power to acquire property and water rights by purchase,
donation, or condemnation,to operate waterworks systems, and to provide water to its inhabitants; and
WHEREAS, the District is authorized to levy taxes, to obtain funds through general
obligation or revenue bonds, or to establish improvement districts for the purpose of assessing owners of
properties benefitted by water development;
WHEREAS, residents of the City of Redlands are inhabitants and voters of the San
Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District;
WHEREAS, any diversion, extraction, or removal of water from the San Bernardino
Basin which depletes the supply and reduces water levels in the basin is detrimental to the health, safety,
and welfare of residents of the City of Redlands and harmful to municipal water resources;
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED:
1. That the City Council of Redlands desires the Board of Directors of the San
Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District to take whatever action is necessary and proper to prevent
such exportations of water from the San Bernardino Basin as are detrimental to the district and impair
the integrity of the water rights of its inhabitants.
2. That a fair proportion of all waters the District may make available to its
inhabitants by such action shall be allocated and dedicated to beneficial use by the people of the City of
Redlands.
