A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS PROVIDING
FOR THE CONTROL OF ADVERTISING DISPLAYS PLACED ADJACENT TO FEDERAL
INTERSTATE AND FEDERAL-AID PRIMARY HIGHWAYS WITHIN THE CITY OF
REDLANDS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES HEREBY RESOLVE
THAT:
WHEREAS, Section 5251 of the Business and Professions Code of
the State of California provides that the governing body of a city,
county, or city and county may request that the State Director of
Public Works require applicants for State outdoor advertising per-
mits to present a certificate of local zoning compliance, or a
prescribed duplicate application for such certificate as a basis
for approval of such permits,- and
WHEREAS, the City of Redlands has adopted the City of Redlands
Sign Code, Ordinance No. 1342, which code the City Council of the
City of Redlands has determined necessary to ensure the fullest en-
joyment by the people of the community of natural and traditional
advantages, prevent depreciation of property values and to minimize
potential hazard by reason of the structural nature, illumination
and electrification of signs and sign structures; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Building and Safety of the City of
Redlands is designated as the enforcement agent for the City of
Redlands Sign Code; and
WHEREAS, it would be in the best interest of the City of
Redlands to retain the responsibility for the enforcement of its own
Sign Code;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
Section 1: The City of Redlands requests that the California
State Director of Public Works require applicants for State outdoor
advertising permits for advertising displays proposed within the
City of Redlands to present a certificate of local zoning compliance
or a prescribed duplicate application for such certificate.
Section 2: The Director of Building and Safety, as the en-
forcement agent of the Redlands Sign Code, is the designated indivi-
dual with whom applications for certificates of zoning compliance
will be filed.
Section 3: The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution and the same shall thereupon take effect and be in force.
The City Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this resolu-
tion to the State Director of Public Works, Attention, Outdoor
Advertising Section, P. O. Box 1499, Sacramento, 95807 .
ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED THIS 5th day of December, 1967 .
