A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
ESTABLISHING A PERMIT PROCEDURE AND FEE SCHEDULE FOR THE
APPLICATION AND ISSUANCE OF AN ENCROACHMENT PERMIT FOR THE
TRIMMING, REMOVAL AND PLANTING OF TREES BY THE SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA EDISON COMPANY AND THEIR ASSIGNED CONTRACTORS
WHEREAS,pursuant to Redlands Municipal Code Section 12.52.140,the Public Works
Director may issue permits for the trimming, removal and planting of public trees; and
WHEREAS, a permit fee shall be required before the Public Works Director issues any
permit, in the amount established by resolution of the City Council and shall be paid by the
applicant unless specifically waived by Code; and
WHEREAS, the Southern California Edison Company is required under the California
Public Utilities Commission's General Order 95, Rule 35 to trim trees in order that the electric
wires may clear branches and foliage by a reasonable distance as established in Table 1, Case 13
of Appendix E of General Order 95; and
WHEREAS,the Southern California Edison Company contracts required line clearance
trimming with contract tree trimming companies on an ongoing basis throughout the year;
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redlands
as follows:
Section 1.
(a) The Public Works Director is authorized to issue a separate annual street tree
encroachment permit on a calendar year basis to any of the Southern California Edison Company's
contractors for any trimming required pursuant to the California Public Utility Commission's
General Order 95,Rule 35,provided such contractors are in compliance with Redlands Municipal
Code Section 12.52.140 (C), "Contract Tree Trimming;" and
(b) As a condition of issuance of this annual street tree encroachment permit, the
Southern California Edison Company or their designated contractors shall notify the Public Works
Director or his/her designee at least five(5)working days prior to the trimming or removal of any
public trees.
Section 2.
(a) The fee for each annual street tree encroachment permit for each separate contractor
shall be $50.00.
(b) The fee specified in this resolution shall become effective immediately upon the
adoption of this resolution.
