HomeMy WebLinkAbout4639_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 4639 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR RESTORE FUNDING APPROVED BY ASSEMBLY BILL NO. 1896 BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redlands as follows: WHEREAS, mental illness is a problem of grave concern and conseauence in our area as well as all of California; and WHEREAS, serious mental illnesses are now known to be diseases of the brain and not the fault of the individual, and can usually be stabilized with proper treatment; and WHEREAS, the San Bernardino County mental health system,, is currently having difficulty providing sufficient treatment and care for the mentally ill due to lack of adequate funding; and WHEREAS, without the additional funds provided by AB 1.896 Sar. Bernardino County may be forced to reduce even further the care of the mentally ill causing additional homelessness and deaths; and WHEREAS, appropriate treatment of mental illness is cost effective because it restores productivity, reduces utilization of health services, and lessens social dependence; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redlands hereby request that Governor George Deukmejian restore the funding which was overwhemingly approved by the Legislature in AB 1896.
