HomeMy WebLinkAbout4666_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 4666 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS OPPOSING AB 4298 RELATING TO RECYCLING WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 4298 does not meet the long term plan of the City of Redlands for recycling and mandates of AB 939 to recycle 25 percent of the waste by the year 1995 and 50 percent by the year 2000; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 4298 would force bankruptcy of the Recycling Fund; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 4298 dismantles AB 2020 , at the urging of the bottle industry and ENVIPCO California; and WHEREAS, the payment of a guaranteed monthly "recycling service fee" to a specified company provides disincentives for collectible glass containers; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 4298 exempts the required payments for recycling costs, shifting the burden to the City and the public by causing the increases of waste into the landfill and thereby increasing landfill costs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redlands, California, fully opposes Assembly Bill 4298 and directs that copies of this resolution be mailed to Assembly Speaker Willie Brown, Assemblyman Paul Woodruff, and Senator Bill Leonard expressing the City of Redlands' concerns.
