HomeMy WebLinkAbout5830_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 5830 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS SUPPORTING THE ZERO-EMISSION VEHICLE PROGRAM OF THE CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCES BOARD WHEREAS, on January 25, 2001, the Zero-Emission Vehicle ("ZEV") program will again be considered by the California Air Resources Board ("CARB") to consider the continuation or modification of this extraordinary and vital clean air program; and WHEREAS, the Air Resources Board, in October 2000, reaffirmed its intention to move ahead with the ZEV program. However, it directed its staff to return in January, 2001 with recommended modifications in the program to address some concerns raised by automakers; and WHEREAS, more than two-thirds of our air pollution comes from mobile sources, such as cars, trucks and buses; and WHEREAS, as our population grows, the gains we have made in cleaning our air with cleaner new cars and trucks will inevitably erode and quickly, Only ZEVs offer the promise of assuring clean air now and for many decades to come; and WHEREAS, "upstream emissions" from gasoline, including those from refineries and from diesel trucks delivering the fuel, and from evaporating and spilled fuel system we now rely upon,poisons not only our air, but also our water supplies and our oceans; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redlands hereby urges Governor Gray Davis and the California Air Resources Board to stand firm to assure continued progress toward clean air in California.
