THE ZERO-EMISSION VEHICLE PROGRAM OF THE CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCES
BOARD
WHEREAS, on January 25, 2001, the Zero-Emission Vehicle ("ZEV") program will
again be considered by the California Air Resources Board ("CARB") to consider the
continuation or modification of this extraordinary and vital clean air program; and
WHEREAS, the Air Resources Board, in October 2000, reaffirmed its intention to move
ahead with the ZEV program. However, it directed its staff to return in January, 2001 with
recommended modifications in the program to address some concerns raised by automakers; and

as cars, trucks and buses; and
WHEREAS, as our population grows, the gains we have made in cleaning our air with
cleaner new cars and trucks will inevitably erode and quickly, Only ZEVs offer the promise of
assuring clean air now and for many decades to come; and

from diesel trucks delivering the fuel, and from evaporating and spilled fuel system we now rely
upon,poisons not only our air, but also our water supplies and our oceans;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redlands
hereby urges Governor Gray Davis and the California Air Resources Board to stand firm to
assure continued progress toward clean air in California.
