HomeMy WebLinkAbout6675_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 6675 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS IN SUPPORT OF MEASURE J, THE REDLANDS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT'S OVERCROWDING RELIEF AND SCHOOL SAFETY MEASURE WHEREAS, Measure J, the Redlands Unified School District's (the "District") Overcrowding Relief and School Safety Measure, would provide $65.5 million in bonds in order to relieve overcrowding in the District's current two high. schools by completing Citrus Valley High School, and providing additional safety and security treasures at all other schools in the District; and WHEREAS, because the District serves a growing population of the Inland Empire and due to the growing overcrowding at the current high schools, the District has been less able to provide the best educational environment to the students for continued academic growth and excellence, and must act to expand its campuses and provide a balanced academic opportunity to all of its students; and WHEREAS, Measure R was approved in November 2002 and provided 558.7 million in State matching funds for modernization projects for many of the ageing schools in the District and partial funding for the new high school; and WHEREAS, the District successfully completed all projects pursuant to Measure R, with the exception of the final phase of the third comprehensive high school (Citrus Valley High School) due to recent substantial increases in costs of construction; and WHEREAS, the Measure R Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee has also verified that the District is meeting its commitment to the community, that all bond funds have been expended appropriately and pledged when Measure R was passed; and WHEREAS, there are provisions specifically included in this proposition to ensure the voters and taxpayers of the District that the District's money will be spent to address specific facilities needs of the District; DJM/Resp/Measure J Reso NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Redlands supports and endorses Measure J, the Redlands Unified School District's Overcrowding Relief and School Safety Measure. ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 15`h day of January, 2008.
