HomeMy WebLinkAbout6674_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO, 6674 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS 1N SUPPORT OF MEASURE M, THE SAN BERNARDINO COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT COLLEGE SKILLED CAREER AND JOB TRAINING FACILITY WHEREAS, Measure M, the San Bernardino Community College District's (the "District") College Skilled Career and Job Training Facility Measure, would provide $500 million in bonds in order to maintain, acquire, construct, improve, furnish and equip properties and facilities to enable each of Crafton Hills College and San Bernardino Valley College to provide affordable, local higher education, to train and retrain local residents for higher-paying and skilled jobs, and to enhance educational opportunities for the students in the District who desire to transfer to four-year universities; and WHEREAS, because the District serves the fast-growing population of the Inland Empire, and due to the age and condition of many of the District's outdated facilities, the District has been less able to provide necessary education programs and thus San Bernardino Valley College and Crafton Hills College must act to maintain and expand their campuses and provide a balance of job training, particularly in healthcare and public safety, and general education classes close to the homes of their respective students; and WHEREAS, notwithstanding concerted and ongoing efforts by the District to obtain sufficient facility money from the State of California (the "State"), the State has been unable to provide the District with enough money for the District to adequately maintain and expand San Bernardino Valley College and Crafton Hills College for students; and WHEREAS, if the District passed a local general obligation, the District's Board believes that the District would be eligible for over$170 million of additional State matching, funds for District facility improvements, and WHEREAS, in order to renovate aging school facilities and relieve overcrowding, the District deems it necessary and advisable to submit such a bond proposition to the electors to be approved by 55% of the votes cast; and WHEREAS, there are provisions specifically included in this proposition to ensure the voters and taxpayers of the District that the District's money will be spent to address specific facilities needs of the District, IDJM/Reno RE Measure M 1/]0/08 11:33 a.m. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Redlands supports and endorses Measure M, the San Bernardino Community College District's College Skilled Career and Job Training Facility Measure, on the February 5, 2008, ballot.
