A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS,
CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING AMTRAK RAILROAD COMMUTER SERVICE
BETWEEN THE REDLANDS-SAN BERNARDINO-COLTON AREA AND
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS , the Federal Clean Air Act requires, by 1977, a substan-
tial reduction in the emission of reactive hydrocarbon to attain desired
air quality standards in the Los Angeles Air Quality Control Region, in
which the City of Redlands is located, and
WHEREAS , the air quality in the Redlands-San Bernardino-Colton
area is rapidly approaching unacceptable levels of petrochemical oxidants
which is of serious concern to the residents of this area with respect
to their health and welfare, and
WHEREAS, the utilization of rail mass transit facilities is one
of the means which can assist in the reduction of hydrocarbon emissions
by providing an acceptable alternative to automobile commuter traffic
between the Redlands-San Bernardino-Colton area and Los Angeles, and
WHEREAS, rail infrastructure is available for use by AMTRAK to
provide rail commuter service between the Redlands-San Bernardino-Colton
area and Los Angeles,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Redlands, California, as follows ;
That the Council respectfully requests the officials of
AMTRAK to provide commuter rail service between the Redlands-
San Bernardino-Colton area and Los Angeles in the interest
of compliance with intent of the Federal Clean Air Act, and
That the Council supports fully actions to achieve this AMTRAK
commuter rail service at the earliest practicable time.
ADOPTED, SIGNED AND APPROVED this 4th day of September, 1973 .

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the
City Council of the City of Redlands at a regular meeting thereof held
on the 4th day of September, 1973, by the following vote:
AYES : Councilmen Demirjyn, Miller, Sewall, Mayor Cummings
NOES : None
ABSENT: Councilman Knudsen
