LIGHTII'G ACT OF 1919.
v.II ERj', . the rapid urbanization and increasing standards
of 14.ving of the citizens of the State of California have resulted
in a heavy demand for the lighting of -the streets and highways, and
MMEAS, this phenomenon makes it necessary now urgently
to consider ways and means of providing efficient and ine::Tensive
administrative processes with which to provide the growing demand
for street lighting services, and
1-MEREAS, the existing statutes as found in the =greet
Lighting Act of 1919 (Streets anal Highways Code, Division 14, Part 1)
provides for a cumbersome, lenrtl�yitime consuming and expensive repo3.-t
and annual assessment, and
NEER1AS, Assembly Dill No. 52, introduced this year in the
First Extraordinary Session of the State Legislature proposes an
amendment to said street lighting act which provides for the cost of
maintenance and energy for street lighting to be paid for from an
ad valorem levy made against the land within a district, and
WHEREAS, this provision in the law would reduce the amount
of tine and expense for both the cities and the county assessor in
placing the assessment on the tax roll;

City of REDLANT , Lhat tlTi.s City Council supports the enactment
of. said Assembly Bill No. 52 for the reasons aforesaid.

BE IT FURTIiER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk be and he i s
authorized and directed to furnish copies of this resolution to the
Senator representing this County in the State Legislature and As:embly-men
Sheridan Hegland, Schrade, Crawford, and Luckel, who are the author: of
this bill; to Mr. Richard Carpenter, Executive DIreetor and General.
Counsel of the League of California Cities and to Assembly=n____,___
Jack Beaver from the District in which this city is located, as
