HomeMy WebLinkAbout2886_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION No. 2886 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS SUPPORTING THE PRESIDENT'S FEDERAL REVENUE SHARING PROGRAM THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS hereby ordains and resolves as follows: WHEREAS, the expansion of the Federal Government in recent decades has decreased the ability of local govern- ments to meet their responsibilities ; and WHEREAS , this situation has , in part, been a result of the Federal pre-eruption of the income tax as a revenue measure; and WHEREAS , the major revenue sources of local govern- ments - sales and property taxes - are rapidly reaching their maximum acceptable limit; and WHEREAS , this deficiency in the power to collect revenue has combined with the ever increasing demand for public services to bring many local governments to the brink of bankruptcy; and WHEREAS, the concept of Federal general revenue sharing with local governments has been supported by an impressive group of national , state and local leaders and organizations as an effective means of assisting in the resolution of this crucial problem; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redlands, meeting this lst day of June, 1971, does declare its strong support for the President' s proposed Federal general revenue sharing program, and urgently re- quests the continuation of bi-partisan efforts in the Congress of the United States to promptly enact this much needed legislation.
