RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS, CALIFORNIA,
SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
WHEREAS, the economic impact of the Ontario International Air-
port is quite substantial with its ever-increasing job-creating
opportunities for the citizens living in the area of influence of
the airport; and
WHEREAS, the total economic impact of the Ontario International
Airport was $161 million in 1971, with a reported projected economic
impact of $707 million by 1980; and with a projected airport employ-
ment of 6, 557 by 1980; and
WHEREAS, the expansion of the physical characteristics of the
airport are proposed to accommodate a growth that is already occur-
ring which can be termed as improving the aircraft and people-
handling characteristics of the airport in response to increased
usage; and
WHEREAS, there is a potential of approximately two million
passengers located within a convenient distance of the Ontario In-
ternational Airport, creating a substantial market area for the
air carriers; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that by 1975 more than 2 million
passengers a year will use the Ontario international Airport, with
the figure reaching 7 million by 1980; and
WHEREAS, the Ontario International Airport is located in an
area which minimizes the use of surface vehicle travel between
Redlands and an airport facility with national and international
air service; and
WHEREAS, the construction of a replacement runway in accord-
ance with the proposed plans will allow the newer and quieter air-
craft to use the airport on a regular basis; and
WHEREAS, the 2, 200-foot shift eastward of the proposed runway
will help mitigate the noise problem of departing aircraft of what-
ever design; and
WHEREAS, the intent and desire of all concerned for the maxi-
mum safeguards for the protection of the environment around the
Ontario International Airport are being followed;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Redlands supports the improvement and orderly growth of the
Ontario International Airport; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that adequate environmental factors
continue to be given full consideration in the overall Planning,
consistent with available technology; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, public and private entities within
the region surrounding the Ontario International Airport give fall
consideration to the job generating opportunities for the citizens
within the influence area of the airport.
