A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
SUPPORTING THE POSITION OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF SAN
BERNARDINO COUNTSRELA'T'IVE TO THE NEED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF
A "TUNNEL FOR ARCHIBALD AVENUE AS PART OF THE EXPANSION OF
ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Department of Airports is planning an
expansion of Ontario International Airport; and
WHEREAS, recent statements have indicated that the Los Angeles
Airport Commission, doges not plan to construct a tunnel .for Archibald
Avenue as called for in their environmental report; and
WHEREAS, as previous environmental documents concerning the ex-
pansion and all plans shown at public hearings have provided .for the
construction of a tunnel beneath the runway to accomodate Archibald
Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Archibald Avenue is a major north/south artery serving
the cities and unincorporated portion of western Sart Bernardino County;
and
WHEREAS, other major airports in California. have suffered from a
lack of adequate vehicular access and the restriction of traffic on
Archibald Avenue will complicate future access to Ontario International
Airport; and
WHEREAS, if the tunnel is not provided for Archibald Avenue, it
will create an excessive detour resulting in additional energy consump-
tion, unnecessary expense to the motoring public, and an increase in
air pollution; and
WHEREAS, it is not equitable to the residents of San Bernardino
and Riverside counties to expect them to pay the excessive coasts to
detour around the airport;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Redlands supports the position of the San Bernardino County Board
of Supervisors requesting that the Less Angeles Airport Commission pro--
vide for the construction of a tunnel at Archibald Avenue when the new
runway is constructed, and directs copies of this resolution be sent
to the Los Angeles Airport Commission, County of San Bernardino Environ-
mental Improvement Agency, and to our State legislators.

of San Bernardino, State of California, do hereby certify that the
foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of said
City and approved by the Mayor thereof at a regular meeting of said
Council held on the 9th day of March, 1978, and that it was adopted
by the following vote:
AYES : Councilmembers Knudsen, Miller, MacFarland, Elliott; Mayor
DeMirjyn
