A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS
ESTABLISHING TRAFFIC REGULATIONS PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 67
OF THE REDLANDS ORDINANCE CODE
Pursuant to studies made in accordance with Chapter 67 of the
Redlands Ordinance Code and the presentation of information gained
in such studies, the City Council hereby finds and determines that
traffic conditions and the convenience of the public require that
certain regulations are necessary and shall be established.
SECTION ONE: Pursuant to Section 40802 (b) of the California
Vehicle Code the following highway has been studied and the
following speed limits are hereby found most appropriate to
facilitate the orderly movement of traffic and are reasonable and
safe.
Highway: Ford Street
Date of Study: March 3 , 1988
Speed Limits as Follows:
35 mph between Citrus Avenue and Sunset Drive
30 mph between Sunset Drive and Garden Hill
Maintain "25 mph when school children are present" zone
as currently posted for north and south bound traffic
between South Avenue and Eucalyptus Drive.

DATE OF SURVEY: March 3,. 1988
RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the facts of this survey, it is recommended that Ford Street
between Citrus Avenue and Sunset Drive be posted for a 35 mph speed
limit.
Between Citrus Avenue and Fifth Avenue there are five
intersections. The area meets the requirements of CVC 22352
(b-1) - (residential district) for a 25 mph speed limit.

Between Fifth Avenue and Redlands Blvd. the currently posted
speed is 35 mph. The area has seven intersections, all of which
are controlled. There is a sharp curve in the roadway between
Crestview and Reservoir Road. A ball bank indicator check was
made of the curve and a maximum safe speed was found to be 35
mph.

Between Redlands Blvd. and Sunset Drive there are two controlled
intersections. The area has several curves and there is a steep
uphill grade for southbound traffic.

Taking the above facts into consideration, a speed limit of 35 mph
between Citrus Avenue and Sunset Drive would be appropriate to
facilitate the orderly movement of traffic in a safe and reasonable
manner.
The area between Sunset Drive and Garden Hill should be posted as a 30
mph zone. The area has five intersections, three of which are
uncontrolled. The roadway between South Avenue and Eucalyptus Drive
borders the Valley Prep Elementary School. The school is not readily
visible to passing drivers due to its set-back location and hilly
terrain.

Taking the above facts into consideration, a speed limit of 30 mph
would be appropriate to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic in
a safe and reasonable manner. The area between South Avenue and
Eucalyptus Drive should remain posted for 25 mph when school children
are present.
It is recommended that the roadway be sign posted as follows:
1. Post 35 mph signs for southbound traffic:
a. Just south of Citrus Avenue
b. Just south of Belfour Court
C. Just south of Fifth Avenue
d. Just south of Crestview Road
e. Just south of Oak Street
2 . Post 35 mph signs for northbound traffic:
a. Just north of Sunset Drive
b. Just north of Reservoir Road
C. Just north of Crestview Road
d. Just north of Highland Avenue
e. Just north of Belfour Court
3 . Post 30 mph signs for southbound traffic:
a. Just south of Sunset Drive
b. Just south of South Avenue
4 . Post 30 mph for northbound traffic:
a. Just north of Eucalyptus Drive
b. Just north of South Avenue
5. Post 25 mph when school children present:
a. 100 yards south of South Avenue
