HomeMy WebLinkAbout2638_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 2638 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS URGING THAT THE QUESTION OF SUFFICIENT FUNDING OF THE STATE WATER PROJECT BE PLACED ON SPECIAL CALL AT THE NOVEMBER SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE WHEREAS, on November 8, 1960, the voters of California ap- proved a bond issue of 1. 7 billion dollars to construct a multi- purpose State Water Project, including water delivery structures, power producing facilities, fish and wild life enhancement fea- tures, and recreational facilities ; and WHEREAS, the State of California through the Legislature pledged to the people of the state that this huge project with all. its facilities would be completed by 1972; and WHEREAS, the Department of Water Resources and the California Water Commission have announced that there is a deficiency in funds for the completion of the project, thus resulting in their recommendation to defer construction of pledged project features vital to Southern California, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: SECTION ONE: That the City Council of the City of Redlands urges the Governor of the State of California to place on special call at the November session of the Legislature, the question of sufficient funding of the State Water Project. SECTION TWO: That certified copies of this Resolution be sent to Governor Ronald Reagan; Senator William E. Coombs, Senator Gordon B . Cologne, Chairman of the Senate Water Resources Commit- tee; Assemblymen Stewart G. Hinckley and John P. Quimby; Assem- blyman Carley V. Porter, Chairman of the Assembly Water Committee, the Director of the Department of Water Resources ; and the Chair- man of the California Water Commission.
