HomeMy WebLinkAbout2585_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 2585 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS URGING THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO SELECT THE SITE FOR A VETERANS ADMINISTRATION HOSPITAL IN THIS VICINITY AND PROCEED WITH CONSTRUCTION AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE DATE WHEREAS, Loma Linda University is rapidly completing one of California ' s great medical centers, promising to make the San Bernardino Valley famous in the fields of science and health, and WHEREAS, the U. S. Veterans Administration is known to prefer hospital sites adjacent to medical schools, among which Loma Linda University is one of the world' s foremost, and WHEREAS, this Inland section of Southern California, east of Los Angeles and the San Gabriel River, is populated by 250, 000 veterans, who have no convenient VA medical facilities, and whose needs will worsen and persist in spite of all presently planned VA hospital construction; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redlands, California, recommends that the United States Government be urgently petitioned, through all appropriate legis- lative and executive departments, to select promptly a VA hospital site in this vicinity, and to proceed with construction at the earliest possible date, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redlands, California, commends Congressmen Jerry L. Pettis and John V. Tunney for their introduction of measures that propose the construction of a Veterans ' hospital in this locality, and that we pledge them our earnest support.
