HomeMy WebLinkAbout3966_CCv0001.pdf RESOLUTION NO. 3966 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS URGING A COOPERATIVE EFFORT RELATING TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA' S WATER SUPPLY AND DEMAND WHEREAS, future water demand in Southern California will require the development of additional water resources to ensure that a dependable and reliable water supply is maintained; and WHEREAS, the Supreme Court has ruled that Southern California' s water supply from the Colorado River will be significantly reduced in 1985; and WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of California, recognizing the critical need to effectively manage, distribute and develop California ' s water supply, identified seven water goals in his 1984 State of the State address, including: - Water conservation and salvaging of wasted water - Protection of water quality - Additional facilities to store surplus water underground and in offstream reservoirs - Interconnecting water systems - Fish and wildlife protection Respecting areas-of-origin water rights - Developing technology to expand water supplies; and WHEREAS, new legislation has recently been introduced in the State Legislature outlining the future management and development of California' s water resources; and WHEREAS, there exists a need for Southern California business, local governments and water agencies to cooperatively identify and assess the future water supply and demand needs in the Southern California region; and WHEREAS, the Southern California Water Committee is being formed comprised of representatives from the eight Southern California counties of Imperial, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura, and cities, businesses and water agencies within these counties; and WHEREAS, the Water Committee will assess Southern California' s future water supply and demand requirements; support efforts to develop additional water supplies in Southern California; and assist in the development of a statewide consensus on management and distribution of California' s water; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redlands supports the formation and goals of the Southern California Water Committee . BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the City Council of the City of Redlands supports the goal of the Committee to cooperatively work with the State Department of Water Resource, Northern California representatives, and water interested parties throughout the State in supporting a statewide water consensus position which is equitable and beneficial for all regions of the State. FURTHER, the City Council of the City of Redlands directs that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to State Senator Ruben Ayala, the California Department of Water Resources, the Southern California Counties and the Southern California Water Committee.
