RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDLANDS URGING THE FEDERAL CIVIL AERONAUTICS
BOARD TO GRANT WESTERN AIR LINES AUTHORITY TO
ESTABLISH AN AIR ROUTE FROM ONTARIO, CALIFORNIA
INTO THE PACIFIC AREA
WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Redlands, Cali-
fornia, representing the 34, 350 inhabitants of the City of Red-
lands, California, has become increasingly concerned with the
crowded freeway conditions for our air passengers arriving and
departing from the Los Angeles International Airport, and
WHEREAS the Ontario International Airport, Ontario,
California, is more conveniently located for arrival and departure
of our air passengers both as to distance and crowded ground access,
our community being 25 miles from Ontario, California, as compared
to 85 miles from the Los Angeles International Airport, and
WHEREAS the driving time by private automobile from the
Redlands area to the Los Angeles International Airport is a minimum
of two hours during non-peak traffic periods, as compared with a
driving time of thirty-five minutes from Redlands to the Ontario
International Airport, and
WHEREAS it is estimated that during the 'year 1966 some
1900 persons residing in the City of Redlands and the surrounding
communities have travelled by air to and from Honolulu and the
Pacific area, and
WHEREAS Western Air Lines has proposed, in the Trans-
pacific Route Investigation schedules, to operate direct from the
Ontario International Airport into the Pacific area, and
WHEREAS such proposals are of substantial benefit to
the air traveling public in ours as well as other adjacent com-
munities,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Redlands, California, joins with the civic officials
of Ontario and urges the Federal Civil Aeronautics Board to grant
the authority to establish a route direct from Ontario International
Airport requested in the Transpacific Investigation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be sent to
Ontario civic officials for inclusion in their testimony before
the trial examiner during the hearings in the Transpacific Route
Investigation.
