A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS APPROVING
THE NAMING OF SYLVAN PARK'S BANDSTAND IN MEMORY OF MR. CURTISS
ALLEN, SR.
WHEREAS, Sylvan Park includes amenities, facilities and provides a benefit use to
residents and the cormnunity of Redlands; and
WHEREAS Mr. Curtiss Allen Sr. has been identified as a significant figure in the
community through his continued leadership and volunteer efforts in the coimnunity's musical
productions; specially, as founder and director of the Redlands Fourth of July Band and director
of the Redlands Bowl Summer Musical Festival programs and was deceased on January 23rd,2016;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redlands adopted Resolution No. 7607 on
February 16, 2016, which established regulations for naming and renaming City parks, buildings
and other public facilities; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 7607 rescinds Resolution No. 6497 to amend the three year
requirement, Section 4.B., for designating an individual's naive for a park,building or other public
facility; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the requirements of Resolution No. 7607, naming
procedure, a member of the City Council may initiate a proposal for naming a City park, building
or other public facility by causing the matter to be placed for consideration on an agenda for a
regularly scheduled meeting of the City Council; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the requirements of Resolution No. 7607, criteria for
Nanning Parks, Buildings and other Public Facilities, City parks,buildings or other public facilities
may be named for a person or entity who has made a significant contribution to the Redlands
com nunity, provided such person shall be deceased for at least three (3) years prior to designating
his or her name for a park, building or other public facility, unless waived by the City Council; or
for a person, organization or business that has contributed more than fifty percent (50%) of the
cost of construction, acquisition, or long-term maintenance of a park, building or public facility.
NOW, THEREFORE,be it resolved by the City Council ofthe City of Redlands as follows:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Redlands names the Bandstand
(gazebo structure) at Sylvan Park in memory of Mr. Curtiss Allen, Sr.
