HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances_2833 ORDINANCE NO. 2833 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS AMENDING CHAPTER 2.10 OF THE REDLANDS MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO OFFICIAL BONDS FOR CITY OFFICERS WHEREAS, Chapter 2.10 of the Redlands Municipal Code requires that the City Clerk and City Treasurer shall each, before cominencing the duties of their respective offices, execute an official bond in favor of the City, conditioned for the faithful performance of their respective duties; and WHEREAS, Governinent Code sections 1463 and 1481 allow the use of a master official bond or insurance policy to meet the bonding requirements for City officers; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council, for purposes of efficiency and cost savings, to make available the use of a commercial government crime insurance policy or employee dishonesty policy as a master official bond to cover all of its officers in lieu of individual official bonds; THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDLANDS DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Sectionl. Section 2.10.020, entitled "Master Official Bond/Insurance Policy," is hereby added to the Redlands Municipal Code to read as follows: "2.10.020: Master Official Bond/Insurance Policy. In lieu of the individual official bonds required by section 2.10.010 of this Chapter, use of a master official bond or a commercial governinent crime insurance policy or employee dishonesty policy to provide coverage for the City Clerk and City Treasurer shall be permitted. The form of such master official bond or insurance policy shall meet the following minimum standards: A. The master official bond or insurance policy shall be in an amount of not less than One Million Dollars. B. The master official bond or insurance policy shall be issued by an insurance company authorized to do business in California. C. The master official bond or insurance policy shall be issued by a company with an A.M. Best's rating of no less than A-:VII. D. The master official bond or insurance policy shall encompass claims, among others, for forgery or alteration, theft, disappearance or destruction, robbery and safe burglary, public employee dishonesty, computer fraud, and fund transfer fraud. The Mayor shall sign this ordinance and the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and shall cause it, or a surriniary of it, to be published once in the Redlands Daily Facts, a newspaper of general circulation within the City, and thereafter, this ordinance shall take effect as provided by law. ae �—;aul W.
